Princess Practicum: The Sovereignty of Self-Trust: Crafting Confidence

In the world of self-improvement and personal growth, confidence reigns supreme. It's the cornerstone upon which we build our dreams, pursue our passions, and navigate life's twists and turns with grace and resilience. But where does true confidence originate, and how can we cultivate it within ourselves?

Welcome back to the Princess Practicum. Today, I’ll be responding to one of my most frequently asked questions: “How are you so confident?” Let’s look at the art of confidence-building through the power of self-trust.

What's at the root of confidence?

At the heart of confidence lies a deep-seated trust in oneself. That self-trust is built through a myriad of ways. For me, it's about making promises to ourselves and following through on them, no matter the obstacles that may arise. Whether it's committing to a daily self-care routine, prioritizing personal growth, or pursuing our dreams with unwavering determination, every act of self-commitment strengthens the foundation of our self-trust, thus building confidence.

In my journey, I've discovered that confidence is not a trait bestowed upon us by external validation or fleeting achievements. Instead, it's a quality we nurture from within, (and I mean HEAVY on the within) through the daily practice of honoring our commitments to ourselves. By taking the time to invest in our well-being, set meaningful goals, and stay true to our values, we lay the groundwork for a steadfast sense of self-assurance that stands the test of time.

So, how can you build self-trust in order to lay a foundation of internal confidence? Here are some actions that I’ve taken over the years.

Practice a Skill

When we think of confident individuals, iconic figures like Beyoncé and LeBron James often come to mind. Their unwavering self-assurance is rooted in their mastery of their craft—the undeniable knowledge that they are among the best in the world at what they do. Becoming proficient in a skill is a surefire way to ignite the flames of confidence within oneself.

Practice, as they say, makes progress, if not perfection. Each moment spent refining your craft is a testament to your dedication and determination—a commitment to excellence that echoes throughout every aspect of your life. While perfection may be fleeting, the journey of continuous improvement instills a sense of confidence that transcends any single achievement.

One of my favorite examples of this is Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. As Elle navigates the challenging terrain of Harvard Law School, she discovers that confidence isn't just about appearances or social status—it's about knowing your worth and trusting your abilities. Nowhere is this more evident than during the pivotal trial scene, where Elle's confidence soars as she realizes the depth of her legal knowledge and expertise. We watch the confidence in her ability grow before our eyes.

It's important to note that Elle's confidence didn't materialize out of thin air—it was the result of dedicated studying and relentless practice. From late-night study sessions to a legal simulation by helping Paulette get her dog back, Elle's commitment to mastering the intricacies of the law laid the groundwork for her triumph in the courtroom. As she stood before the judge, armed with knowledge and conviction, Elle embodied the essence of true confidence—a confidence born not of arrogance, but of preparation, perseverance, and PRACTICE!

Make Commitments to Yourself

Setting commitments for yourself is akin to crafting a Pink Print for your improvement journey. Making & honoring commitments to ourselves cultivates a sense of self-trust and empowerment.

It is vital to make commitments to ourselves in the pursuit of confidence, as there is a transformative power of intentionality. When we set clear intentions and goals for our personal growth journey, we create a sense of purpose and direction that fuels our motivation and propels us forward. Each commitment becomes a catalyst for change, allowing us to reach new heights of achievement.

By honoring our promises and following through on our commitments, we demonstrate to ourselves that we are capable, reliable, and deserving of success. With each fulfilled commitment, we reinforce our belief in our own abilities and lay the foundation for a steadfast sense of self-assurance that infiltrates every aspect of our lives.

Establish Routines

At their core, routines are more than just mundane tasks or repetitive actions; they are sacred rituals that give our lives purpose, meaning, and order. From the moment we wake up to the closing of our eyes every evening, routines provide us with a sense of structure and control amidst the chaos of everyday life. They serve as the foundation upon which we anchor ourselves, grounding us in the present moment and guiding us along the path of self-discovery and growth.

Why are routines so essential in the cultivation of confidence? The answer lies in their transformative power to instill a sense of stability and control in our lives. In a world that often feels unpredictable and chaotic, routines offer a sanctuary of predictability and familiarity. By establishing consistent rituals and habits, we create a sense of order and rhythm that allows us to navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience.

Perhaps most importantly, routines serve as a powerful tool for self-care and well-being. When you take care of yourself, you are signaling to your brain that you are worthy and when you are worthy, you believe in yourself and honor yourself. By incorporating practices that nourish our mind, body, and spirit into our daily routines, we cultivate a holistic sense of wellness that radiates from within.

What I hope you take away from this post is that confidence is not just a desirable trait; it's an essential skill that empowers us to embrace our true potential and lead with grace and authenticity. By embracing the principles of self-trust, we can cultivate a confidence that radiates from within.
