In the whirlwind of our daily routines, it's easy to overlook the beauty that surrounds us and the potential for magic in the mundane. Romanticizing your life isn't about waiting for someone else to bring you flowers or write you love letters; it's about finding love in your actions and surrounding yourself with things that make you feel joyous and alive. It's about transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, one day at a time. Here are some princess pointers about romanticizing your life. These are things that bring me joy daily.
1. Indulge in Elegance at Home
Start by elevating your home environment. Your home is your paradise. Your castle. It is likely one of the few spaces where you can be yourself in full vulnerability. It is where you recharge and press reset on each day. I encourage you to swap out your regular loungewear for girly negligee. I promise you, the way that you feel about yourself when you're in pretty pajamas or sexy negligee is drastically different than when you throw on the t-shirt you got in the tenth grade.
Light scented candles to fill your space with your favorite fragrances. I personally love for my home to smell like strawberry shortcake! The sweet strawberry and vanilla scent makes me feel cozy. These small changes can transform your living space into a sanctuary that feels luxurious and comforting. Allow yourself to indulge in these simple pleasures, as they serve as a reminder that you deserve beauty and comfort in your everyday life.
2. Find Your Signature Scent
Perfume isn't just for special occasions. Find a fragrance that speaks to you and make it a part of your daily ritual. A signature scent can act like an invisible armor, boosting your confidence and reminding you of your unique essence with every whiff. Bonus tip: find a perfume to wear to bed. I actually place light powder on my bed at night and have a couple of different bedtime perfumes that I wear.
3. Bring Nature Indoors
Incorporate fresh elements into your space by having a weekly (or biweekly) bouquet of flowers. The act of choosing flowers, arranging them, and placing them where you can see them adds an instant lift to your spirits and beautifies your environment. Plants and flowers are not only visually pleasing but also have a way of connecting us to the natural world, grounding us in the present moment.
While I personally prefer and encourage you to go find the flowers and arrange them yourself, I think a shortcut can include signing up for one of those monthly delivery services. Either way, this is such a beautiful way to romanticize your life!
4. Curate Your Life’s Soundtrack
Music has the power to transform our mood and perspective. Dedicate some time to curate playlists for different moments and moods in your life. Whether it's a playlist for morning motivation, relaxation after a long day, or something to inspire creativity, having these soundtracks at your fingertips can help you cultivate the atmosphere you desire at any moment.
5. Practice Gratitude with Intention
Keeping a gratitude journal is a powerful practice to romanticize your life. It shifts your focus from what you lack to the abundance that surrounds you. Every evening, jot down three things you were grateful for that day. If you have a hectic life, I challenge you to at least set aside time on Sunday evenings ahead of the week to journal. Reflect on the week you just wrapped up and set intentions for the week ahead. Things you show gratitude for don't have to be extravagant. It can be as simple as a delicious cup of tea, a heartfelt conversation, or the comfort of your bed. Acknowledging these moments enriches your life with a sense of wonder and appreciation.
6. Surround Yourself with Beauty
Please believe me when I say that this doesn't mean everything has to be expensive or luxurious. Beauty is subjective and personal. It could be as simple as rearranging your space to reflect your personal style, choosing stationery that makes you excited to write, or setting your table with care, even if it's just for a meal alone. By making beauty a priority, you'll begin to notice it everywhere, elevating your everyday experience. This tip is a #MajorKiy.
7. Embrace the Art of Letter Writing
In our digital age, receiving a handwritten letter feels like a luxury. Start by writing letters to friends or even to yourself. When I was a teacher, I started my first year of teaching by writing letters to myself. 1-2 years later, I read them and words cannot begin to capture how I felt reading those letters.
The act of putting pen to paper is a meditative practice that slows you down and lets you express your thoughts and feelings more deeply. Sending and receiving letters (or cards) can add an element of anticipation and delight to your life, connecting you with others in a meaningful way.
Romanticizing your life is about celebrating the ordinary, seeking out joy, and cultivating beauty in your daily existence. It's a practice that encourages you to live intentionally and with appreciation. Start with these tips, and soon you'll find your own ways to add romance to the everyday. Remember, the goal is to fall in love with your life, one moment at a time.
Thank you so much for sharing these tips with us! It's so easy to get lost with the hustle of our daily lives, especially if we have different things going on (kids, work, personal projects, relationships, etc.) I do some of these occasionally but I definitely want to get better and doing most of these consistently.
