Becoming a 'Dream Girl' is OUT

Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in content on social media platforms that promote the notion of becoming a 'Dream Girl'. At first glance, such advice seems to advocate for women to evolve into superior versions of themselves. However, a closer examination reveals an underlying message: a Dream Girl is crafted based on societal expectations, primarily for the appreciation of others. Such a portrayal not only confines women to a predefined mold but also adheres strictly to societal norms and accepted behaviors. It's noteworthy to mention that a significant portion of the Dream Girl content appears to be geared toward attracting a partner. It's essential to understand that the journey to becoming the best version of oneself should be pursued independently of seeking a relationship, as confining oneself to the expectations of another might limit one's true potential.

The concept of the male gaze pertains to the lens through which women are frequently portrayed or viewed, especially in media, based largely on male perspectives and desires. This mode of representation tends to objectify women, reducing them to mere objects designed to appease male desires.

In the context of evolving beyond such boundaries, the shift in appearance that no longer aims to appease the male gaze is a profound example. This transition signifies the move from being a 'Dream Girl'—a woman conditioned by societal and male-dictated expectations—to a 'Fantasygrl.' The Fantasygrl is a woman who exudes an otherworldly and ethereal aura. She is not bound by the conventions of society or the expectations of others. Instead, she is defined exclusively by her standards and rules, asserting her agency and autonomy in her identity and presentation.

I have always been one to challenge conventions and inspire others to see beyond the ordinary. While dreams provide us with a vision of what may be attainable, fantasies let our imagination soar without boundaries. Through this article, I aim to offer guidance on metamorphosing into your personal 'Fantasygrl'—envisioning a version of yourself that you might not have perceived possible before. This is about becoming the woman you truly are, uninfluenced by fleeting trends on social media or external opinions, including familial pressures.

While dreams provide us with a vision of what may be attainable, fantasies let our imagination soar without boundaries.

At the heart of my essence lie authenticity and confidence. These values have been instrumental in my own voyage towards realizing my 'Fantasygrl' vision—a narrative where I craft my story, largely uninfluenced by external perceptions.

Are you prepared to embark on this transformative journey towards becoming a Fantasygrl? Here are some suggestions that helped me realize my full potential as the girl of my fantasies.

  1. Self-Care: I know, I know. Self-care is such a buzzword these days, but seriously, a self-care routine really makes me feel like I can conquer the world. Pamper yourself regularly. This could mean a spa day, a bubble bath, or simply spending a quiet evening reading a book. This is intentionally my first tip because it prioritizes SELF. Self-care requires you to put yourself, your body, and your needs FIRST. Remember, being a Fantasygrl means the external is secondary. SELF is first, always.

  2. Stay Organized: No matter how trivial or low-lift it might be, everyone has a goal. A key component in reaching those goals is staying organized and tracking your progress. Use planners, apps, or journals. Decorate them with cute stickers and pastel colors if that's your style. This can help you stay on track with your goals and tasks.

  3. Dress It Up & Make It Real: Whether it's for a casual day out or an important meeting, dressing up can boost your confidence. Always have a signature style or accessory that makes you feel like a million bucks. Even a signature color can help. I always feel my absolute best when I wear pink, so I almost always wear it. 4. Learn Constantly: Because capitalism is so prevalent in Western society, it is really easy to want to take the backseat and just coast through life lazily. I mind my business and won't cast judgment here, however, I am an advocate for being brilliant, especially as women. Take courses on topics you love, be it makeup, fashion, business, or anything else. The internet is full of online classes on almost every topic imaginable. Informal learning is just as beneficial! Make sure to grab a library card if you don't already have one.

  5. Travel: I am not a huge travel snob, so I am using the term lightly. Whenever you can, explore new places. Even if it's just a day trip to a nearby town, the change in scenery can inspire and refresh you.

  6. Dream Journal: If you've been around my content for a while then you already knew this one was coming. Keep a journal where you jot down all your dreams, aspirations, and ideas. Review it from time to time to remind yourself of your goals and to see how far you have come!

  7. Fitness: Find a fun and girly workout regime. It could be dance, yoga, or pilates. Staying active keeps you energized and feeling great about yourself. I have a cute pink treadmill that turns into an under-the-desk walking pad that I enjoy. I've also participated in unique workout classes like twerk classes. Whatever floats your boat, just find a way to get your body moving.

  8. Beauty Rituals: Similar to self-care, having a beauty routine in place is super beneficial. It's not just about looking good, but also about taking time out of your day to care for yourself. It is a time when your undivided attention is on you and you alone. You can try new skincare products, try different techniques in your makeup routine, and take the time to fawn over the beauty reflected back at you in the mirror.

  9. Financial Wisdom: Learn the basics of budgeting, saving, and investing. Seriously, just start with the basics. Being financially independent is empowering. I know there is a HUGE push towards being a kept woman right now on social media, but nothing compares to financial independence and it is really important as a woman to have your finances in order. Take me for example, I am in a healthy, loving, long-term relationship. Even so, I ensure that I can take care of my lifestyle with my income alone should anything happen.

  10. Networking: This one might make you roll your eyes, and may even make your stomach ache if you're more introverted, but it is an important component of life. Attend events or workshops in areas of your interest. You never know, the next person you meet could open a door to an opportunity-- even if it just results in friendship. That's an invaluable opportunity.

  11. Home Decor: This one is soooooo important even though it may not seem like it. Make your living space a reflection of your fantasies. Fill it with items that inspire you and make you happy. Take your time and get OFF of Pinterest. For real. Identify things in stores that make you giddy.

  12. Creative Projects: Embrace your creative side. Whether it's crafting, sewing, or home projects, creative activities are fun and fulfilling. I personally enjoy Lego sets and Gundam builds.

  13. Healthy Eating: Experiment with fun, girly recipes. Think pink smoothie bowls, floral salads, or pastel macarons. Fueling your body with nutritious foods will keep you feeling good. It is also nice to just expand your palate.

  14. Mental Health: Prioritize your mental health. Engage in activities that calm your mind, like meditation, journaling, or listening to music. For those who have the ability, I encourage seeking professionals to assist with your mental health, even if you feel like there is "nothing wrong." It is really nice to have an objective professional to chat with.

  15. Support System: Surround yourself with positive, supportive friends and family. Having a strong support system can help you overcome challenges and celebrate victories. It also helps with your cognitive development. Unique perspectives are important.

There you have it. While this list is not at all comprehensive, these suggestions are the core of how I became my own Fantasygrl. As a result, I live a colorful life full of love, laughter, and beauty.

I am looking forward to expounding upon each of these suggestions in my Fantasygrl Series.
